Description

The Apple Music App is exclusive to the Apple ecosystem and offers new songs and albums for you to listen and download.

It allows you to create custom playlists fitting your preferences. But the process of adding and sharing playlists is unintuitive and take one too many taps. There also isn’t a way to make your playlist public so others can search it and add it to their own library.

Proto Persona

We first created a Proto-Persona to get an idea of our target audience. Jack Smith is portrayed as a music enthusiast and likes finding new songs to listen to.

Storyboard

The storyboard depicts Jack watching a Youtube video and hears a song he likes and wants to add to his playlist.

Interviews

We interviewed people to get a broader idea on why people use Apple Music or why they don’t, and opt to use other music apps much like the ones mentioned above.

Low-Fi Prototype

We then went into Low-Fidelity Prototyping our ideas onto paper to get a rough outline on what some of the features would like. Then putting it into Figma to add some functionality to it.

Mid-Fi Prototype

We went ahead and turned it into Mid-Fidelity Prototype because we’re working with an already designed app and didn’t feel the need to change the look of Apple Music.

Because Apple Music is built into the iPhones, there isn’t much of a signup/onboarding process in terms of opening the Music app for the first time. Other than activating your iPhone for the first time and going through that process which we didn’t want to do.

User Testings

We then had user testing from various people for their insight and opinion.

Final

From the tests we’ve gathered, the feedback was very insightful and constructive. For example, people were having a hard time finding the “Apple Sense” feature so we made a page indicating where to go after they’ve finished selecting their 5 artists/genres.

Another one was the bright white background when you first select your artists/genres was very jarring and wasn’t cohesive with everything else being dark mode. So I made the background darker to fit with the theme and not blind the user.
