Description

We believe redesigning the layout of The Pet Project’s homepage for individuals looking to adopt a pet from the organization will achieve a higher rate of pet adoptions.

The Pet Project

Research

The research showed us that many people around us are very interested on adopting however sometimes it can be difficult to find information online or when they have a place in mind the process takes a bit too long.

Although, regardless of the time it takes to adopt a pet, they seem to never regret it since they end up with a best friend or buddy that they can spend the days with and at the same time give them a second chance or better life.

Persona

For our proto persona we choose an older woman because it seem more like the intended audience of the website. Since this animal are in need of a lot of love and attention but also have a lot love to give back as well as great companionship.

Empathy Map

When adopting it is important to keep in mind that many of this animals have not had proper homes or were being mistreated, which mean evaluating the reasons to adopt, the space and time available for them is very important.

Calculating which daily activities and essentials can you commit to provide.

Heuristic Evaluation

The heuristic evaluation was a great tool to help us make note of all the areas we wanted to improve on the The Pet Project website.

It helped us recognizes problem areas like the color choice, white space, distribution of the information around the website and not enough immediate representation of the company's mission or goals.

Competitor Analysis

We split up the competitor analysis within the group.

I look at TCMFINC.org, a manatee foundation.

"Giant image of a manatee filling the entire homepage. Have a mission statement. Very limited information."

Yailin looked at Bestfriends.org, a no-kill focused non-profit.

"Website shares so much information of the ways users can be a help to shelter when adopting/rescue animal. offers a grand variety of animals to adopt or foster, as well as the experience of people their had adopted before. page dedicated to donations."

And Izzy looked at Catdogs.org, dedicated to improving the lives of those in need through assisted therapy.

"Provides a wide variety of services through animal therapy. Design is simple but colorful with meaningful pictures and graphics. Color scheme is incorporates bright colors with a simple background. Well placed graphics throughout the site."

User Flow &
Journey Map

Reorganized Main Navigation to better fit in the heading.

Grouped Donating, Events, Volunteering, and Newsletter pages on new Get Involved tab.

Storyboard

We started with the thought of what is Apple Music missing in their app? Then we started to look into other music centered apps like Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, SoundCloud, and others to get an understanding on what they’ve done to incorporate them into Apple Music.

Mood Board
& Style Tile

We created a mood board containing images of what we wanted the site to look like and what the user feels when opening it for the first time.

Wireframes

For the pages we wanted to make sure the animals and the testimonial of the people that have adopted were the center of attention followed by the option to donation which is why we make sure all of that information was well organized on their own separate pages.

We sent out a usability test to evaluate how well we designed the pages and what we need to change to make it better. And these are our findings.
